Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

At Green Card Jobs, we value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our website and services (the "Service"). Our site sorts and displays publicly available job data from government sources, including the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), to help you find U.S. jobs with green card sponsorship. Data is provided in the public domain by the DOL and used with attribution, but our service is not affiliated with or endorsed by the DOL.

By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

  • Account & Subscription Information: When you create an account or subscribe to our Service, we collect your name, email address, password (stored in encrypted form), and your subscription/billing status. Subscription payments are processed by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your full payment card number on our servers — Stripe collects and stores that information directly.
  • Usage, Device & Log Data: We collect information about how you interact with our site, such as search queries, pages visited, browser and device information, and your IP address. We log your IP address (a) when you create an account, (b) when you log in, and (c) when you perform searches or otherwise use the Service. We use this information to monitor usage, prevent fraudulent activity (including chargebacks and fraudulent or duplicate sign-ups intended to abuse our Affiliate/Referral Program described in Section 6), enforce anti-scraping measures, and detect unauthorized account sharing. This information is stored using Firebase, with access restricted to authorized administrators for security and auditing purposes.
  • Cookies, Analytics & Advertising Data: We use cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics, to understand how visitors use our Service. We may in the future use additional tools such as Google Ads and advertising/conversion tracking pixels. See Section 4 for details.
  • Affiliate / Referral Program Information: If you participate in our Affiliate/Referral Program, we generate and associate a unique referral link or code with your account, track sign-ups and qualifying activity attributed to that link, and maintain a record of commissions earned. If you request a payout, we collect the payment account details you provide (for example, a PayPal email address) solely to process that payout. See Section 6.
  • Support & Communications Data: If you contact our support team — including through our in-app support chat feature — or submit a bug report, we collect the content of your messages and any information you choose to share, in order to respond to and resolve your inquiry. Support conversations are stored using Firebase and are accessible to our admin/support team.
  • Public Job Listing Data: Job listings displayed on our Service are sourced from publicly available government data files, such as those published by the U.S. Department of Labor, and generally do not constitute personal information about our users. Source: https://www.dol.gov. To the extent any such listing includes information identifying an individual (for example, a named employer contact), that information remains subject to this Policy where applicable.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve our job search platform and subscription services.
  • Create and manage your account, and process subscription payments through Stripe.
  • Operate our Affiliate/Referral Program, including generating referral links, tracking referral activity, calculating commissions, processing payouts, and detecting and preventing fraudulent or abusive activity.
  • Respond to your inquiries and support requests, including via our in-app support chat and email (see Section 14 for contact details).
  • Send transactional communications, such as account confirmations, password resets, billing notices, and payout confirmations, using our email service providers (Mailtrap and EmailJS).
  • Analyze and improve site usage and performance using tools such as Google Analytics, and, if implemented in the future, advertising tools such as Google Ads and conversion tracking pixels.
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms of Service.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies on our Service. These generally fall into the following categories:

  • Essential / Strictly Necessary Cookies: required for core site functionality, such as keeping you logged in and maintaining security.
  • Analytics Cookies: such as those set by Google Analytics, which help us understand how visitors use our Service so we can improve it.
  • Affiliate / Referral Tracking: cookies or identifiers used to attribute a new sign-up to the correct referral link so that commissions can be calculated accurately.
  • Advertising Cookies (future use): we do not currently use advertising or marketing cookies. We may in the future implement tools such as Google Ads, remarketing, and conversion tracking pixels. If we do, we will update this Policy and provide the choices described in Section 8.

We provide a cookie consent tool that lets you manage certain cookie preferences when you first visit our Service. You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Our Service does not currently change its behavior in response to "Do Not Track" browser signals; however, where technically feasible, we honor recognized opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control ("GPC"), as described in Section 8.

5. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. We may share information with:

  • Stripe, to process subscription payments. Stripe receives and stores your payment card details directly; we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Firebase / Google Cloud, which hosts our database and stores account information, IP address and usage logs, Affiliate/Referral Program data, and support chat messages.
  • Mailtrap and EmailJS, to deliver transactional emails and to enable certain on-site forms (such as our bug report form) to send messages.
  • Google Analytics, and, if implemented in the future, other Google products such as Google Ads or conversion tracking pixels, for analytics and (in the future) advertising purposes.
  • Affiliates participating in our Referral Program, who receive limited, aggregated information about activity attributed to their referral link (such as the number of sign-ups and commissions earned), but do not receive personal information about the individuals who signed up.
  • Government authorities or other third parties, where required to comply with applicable law, legal process, or governmental request.
  • A successor entity, in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of some or all of our assets, with notice to you.

CPRA "Sharing": We do not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes (i.e., "sharing" as defined under the California Privacy Rights Act). If we begin using tools such as Google Ads or advertising pixels in a manner that constitutes "sharing," we will update this Policy and provide the choices described in Section 8, including honoring opt-out preference signals where technically feasible.

6. Affiliate / Referral Program

We offer an Affiliate/Referral Program. Registered users can generate a unique referral link to share with others. When someone signs up using your referral link, we track that sign-up and any further qualifying activity in order to calculate commissions or rewards owed to you. Commissions accrue to your account balance and are paid out once your balance reaches a minimum payout threshold, as described on our Service.

To process a payout, we collect the payment account information you provide (such as a PayPal email address or similar payment details). This information is used solely to send your payout and is not used for any other purpose.

We do not share the personal information of referred users with the referring affiliate, beyond aggregated, non-identifying activity totals (e.g., number of sign-ups and commission earned). To protect the integrity of the Affiliate/Referral Program and prevent abuse — including self-referrals and the creation of fraudulent accounts — we may use account, device, and IP address information (including IP addresses logged at sign-up, login, and during use, as described in Section 2) to detect and prevent fraudulent referral activity.

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to protect your information, including encryption and the use of secure infrastructure providers such as Firebase and Stripe. Access to account data, IP address logs, Affiliate/Referral Program data, and support chat messages is restricted to authorized administrators and support staff. Payment card details are handled directly by Stripe and are not stored on our servers. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Privacy Rights and Choices

You may access, update, or request deletion of your account information, including IP address logs, by contacting us (see Section 14). You may opt out of non-essential communications by following the unsubscribe link included in those emails.

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA): Subject to certain exceptions, California residents have the right to:

  • Know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, use, and disclose, and the sources, purposes, and categories of third parties involved;
  • Delete personal information we have collected from you;
  • Correct inaccurate personal information;
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do not currently sell or share personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA. If this changes, we will provide a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link and will honor opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control ("GPC"), where technically feasible;
  • Limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information — the only sensitive personal information we collect is payment account information you provide for Affiliate/Referral Program payouts, which we use solely to process those payouts; and
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise these rights, contact us using the information in Section 14. To protect your information, we will take reasonable steps to verify your identity (for example, by confirming the email address associated with your account) before responding to your request. We will respond within 45 days, as required by law (this period may be extended by an additional 45 days where permitted, in which case we will notify you). You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf by providing us with written authorization to do so; we may still require you to verify your own identity directly with us.

Shine the Light (California Civil Code §1798.83): We do not share personal information with third parties for those third parties' own direct marketing purposes. If this changes, California residents may request information about such disclosures once per calendar year by contacting us using the information in Section 14.

EU / UK / EEA Residents (GDPR): If you are located in the EU, UK, or EEA, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Our legal bases for processing include: performance of a contract (e.g., providing your account, subscription, and Affiliate/Referral Program participation), legitimate interests (e.g., fraud prevention, security, and analytics), consent (e.g., certain cookies, where required), and compliance with legal obligations. To exercise these rights, contact us using the information in Section 14. See Section 10 regarding international transfers of your information.

9. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the information in Section 14, and we will take steps to delete such information.

10. International Data Transfers

Our service providers, including Firebase/Google Cloud and Stripe, may process and store information on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where required by applicable law, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or other legally recognized transfer mechanisms, to protect information transferred internationally.

11. Third-Party Links

Our site may link to external sites (e.g., employer websites). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

12. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide our Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. In particular:

  • Account and subscription information is retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward.
  • IP address and usage logs collected at sign-up, login, and during use are retained for 12 months for fraud-prevention and security purposes, unless a longer period is needed for an active investigation or required by law.
  • Affiliate/Referral Program records, including commission balances and payout history, are retained for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward, as needed for accounting purposes.
  • Support chat messages and bug reports are retained for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry and for a reasonable period afterward for quality and training purposes.
  • Billing and transaction records are retained for as long as required under applicable tax, accounting, and other legal obligations.
  • Other personal data is generally retained for no longer than 5 years after your last interaction with us, unless a longer period is required by law.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here, with the "Last Updated" date revised accordingly. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically. Your continued use of our Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
